About the Role

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is seeking an Assistant Housing Manager for the Leased Housing Department’s Bronx Client Services team. This unit supervises staff and ensures accurate, timely, and compliant processing of service requests in accordance with HUD regulations, SEMAP standards, departmental policies and procedures, and communicates with program participants and landlords. The Assistant Housing Manager will perform work of some difficulty and responsibility related to the administration and management of NYCHA’s Leased Housing Department within the Bronx Client Services unit, exercising independent judgment and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate documents to process lease renewals, annual, and interim recertifications using HUD regulations, NYCHA policy, and procedure.
  • Review, approve, and oversee HCV processes, including recertifications, lease renewals, and contract rent changes.
  • Ensure all program activities are completed accurately and in compliance with HUD regulations and Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP) requirements.
  • Supervise and support staff, including training and development, performance monitoring, productivity tracking, and administering corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Assist in analyzing team performance and preparing reports, findings, and recommendations related to workload management and program effectiveness.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to staff to ensure accurate and consistent case processing.
  • Identify, document, and report system issues, recommended fixes, and enhancement needs.
  • Ensure prompt, accurate, and professional responses to internal and external inquiries.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, program participants, landlords, and external partners.
  • Analyze and resolve income discrepancies.
  • Create and process payment adjustments.
  • Complete case corrections.
  • Respond to information requests, emails, and correspondence.
  • Ensure timely delivery of responses to inquiries.
  • Identify and escalate case and system issues for immediate follow-up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have civil service status in the title of Assistant Housing Manager to be considered.
  • Candidates eligible for the 55-a Program should indicate their interest in their cover letter.
