About the Role

This role offers the opportunity to act as Lewisham Council's expert in equalities, leading policies and projects, engaging with the community, and providing advice and training to senior officers and elected Members.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the in-house expert on equalities matters.
  • Provide advice and support on equalities governance.
  • Ensure statutory duties related to equalities are met.
  • Advise colleagues on a range of equalities issues.
  • Lead on key projects and programmes of work to tackle inequality and create a fairer borough.
  • Work closely with colleagues to support and improve their work.
  • Own projects and policies, delivering key priorities within the borough.

Requirements

  • Expertise in equalities.
  • Sound understanding of statutory duties Council's operate under.
  • Knowledge of effective equalities policy.
  • Awareness of key equalities issues facing local government and the borough of Lewisham.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering policies or programmes of work which have had a tangible impact on people's lives, ideally in a comparable organisation.
  • Confidence and personal authority to drive forward the equalities agenda.
  • Ability to deliver training.
  • Ability to inspire confidence in expertise.
  • Ability to regularly present work to both senior officers and elected Members.
