About the Role
The Overnight Counselor Assistant is an awake position responsible for the safety of residents and the facility between 10 PM and 8 AM. This role provides counseling and emergency services as needed, along with Quality Assurance services as designated by the Program Director and Program Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Observes behavior and ensures the maintenance of appropriate conduct.
- Provides for the safety and integrity of the facility at all times.
- Ensures all records are locked and medications are stored and monitored according to program policy.
- Ensures the adherence of confidentiality regulations.
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with residents, staff and community professionals.
- Provides crisis management as needed.
- Maintains professional practices and adheres to Agency’s policies and procedures.
- Does not leave the facility unattended without the verbal consent of the Program Supervisor.
- Checks the medication log for controlled medications and documentation of missed medications.
- Places a shift entry in the daily log, noting any concerns.
- Counts all medication at the beginning of each week and forwards a report to the Clinical supervisor.
- Prepares the weekly case review list and compiles drug screening data.
- Prepares the room list at the beginning of each week and posts it in the office.
- Audits charts of residents discharged within thirty days of discharge and identifies deficiencies.
- Prepares the next month’s medication sheet on the last work shift of the month.
- Organizes and updates bulletin boards in the office and hallway.
- Collects monthly work readiness reports from counselors and completes a report for the Program Director.
- Audits 50% of active records twice a year (June and December) and submits reports.
- Prepares a summary of resident surveys collected throughout the previous year.
- Completes “county of origin reports” for both the CR and SLP.
- Completes the unplanned discharge report detailing reasons for unplanned discharges.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- CASAC-T preferred.
- Valid NY State Driver License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Two years of prior experience in substance abuse or related human service field preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Relevant years of experience and education will be considered.
- Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
- Ability to prioritize assignments, plan, and complete work projects with minimal direction.
- Exceptional time management skills and ability to effectively meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal/written skills.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations, including economic diversity.
- Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record acceptable by the agency and insurance carrier.
- Continuous use of a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.
- Ability to work in Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to demonstrate behaviors and attitudes that support organizational mission, philosophy, and policies.
- Ability to work in a cooperative and helpful manner with all individuals.
- Willingness and ability to foster agency and program wide cooperation and teamwork.
- Ability to provide effective, equitable, understandable and respectful quality care and services responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs.
