About the Role
The Content Specialist develops and implements educational and recreational curricula for afterschool programs. This role involves supervising instructional staff, providing coaching and training, and assessing the program's overall impact and effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Identify instructional staff training needs
- Conduct staff training on lesson planning, curriculum development, STEAM, literacy, and youth development principles
- Ensure effective implementation of literacy and STEAM components
- Consult with leadership to make professional development recommendations
- Design and deliver professional development for Activity Specialists and Group Leaders
- Conduct classroom observations to provide guidance and supervision
- Assist in evaluating participants' academic progress
- Develop and implement educational curriculum for elementary and middle school students
- Coach staff in preparing lesson plans and activities
- Ensure activities align with youth development principles, socio-emotional learning, and Common Core standards
- Review lesson plans and provide feedback
- Meet regularly with staff to provide guidance and supervision
- Model content and pedagogy in the classroom
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of instructional staff
- Collaborate on curricular design
- Perform additional tasks as required by the Director of Youth Services
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts, Literacy, Science, Math, Education, or related field
- Teaching credential or teaching experience
- Experience in lesson planning, curriculum development, and structured programming for elementary or middle school students
- Minimum two years of experience working with children up to age 13 in a supervisory role, or two years of child care credentials plus one year in a supervisory role
- Minimum two years of experience coaching teachers or facilitators preferred
- Experience working with ethnically diverse populations
- Strong critical thinking, written, and verbal skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
