About the Role

Reddam House North Shore, an Inspired Education Group school, is seeking an exceptional Secondary Music Teacher to guide students from Years 7-12. This role involves delivering engaging, high-quality classroom music instruction aligned with the NESA curriculum, inspiring students as performers, composers, and listeners. The position begins as a 0.7 FTE appointment in Term 1, 2027, with potential to expand to full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons that inspire and challenge students, aligning with the NESA syllabus, school policies, and assessment requirements.
  • Differentiate learning to ensure every student is challenged, supported, and achieves outstanding progress.
  • Teach Music across Stages 4-6, supporting students in developing practical, theoretical, and creative musicianship through performance, listening, and composition.
  • Assess students’ learning through a range of formative and summative assessment strategies, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Create a classroom culture where students feel valued, challenged, and confident to take creative risks.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues as an active member of the Music Department, contributing to curriculum development and sharing innovative teaching practices.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning.
  • Play an active role in the school’s co-curricular programme and Music Department, supporting concerts, performances, ensembles, and other initiatives.
  • Maintain positive and constructive communication with parents, building strong partnerships.

Requirements

  • Proven experience teaching Secondary Music with a strong understanding of NESA curriculum requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Stage 4 Music.
  • Experience in student assessment, reporting, and curriculum planning.
  • Confidence using music technology, notation software, and digital learning tools.
  • Experience organising and supporting performances, concerts, and other music-related activities.
  • Experience teaching composition across a range of musical styles.
  • Passionate about education and committed to the holistic development of students from Years 7-12.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring students through the HSC Composition elective.
  • Patient, empathetic, and supportive of students’ emotional and social well-being.
  • Collaborative team player who communicates effectively with staff, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Resilient and adaptable in dynamic educational settings.
  • Valid Working with Children Check.
  • Willingness to assist with lunch/playground supervision and student drop-off/pick-up duties.
  • Availability to attend school events outside regular hours, including concerts, performances, and parent meetings.
