About the Role

Shine is seeking Engineering Managers to lead squads of 4-8 engineers within the Banking organization. This role involves managing team delivery, fostering engineer growth, and ensuring technical quality. You will stay close to the technical work, contribute to design and architecture, and participate in incident management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and support a squad of 4-8 engineers
  • Set clear expectations and give regular feedback to engineers
  • Support each person's professional growth
  • Create clarity on priorities, delivery, and technical direction
  • Contribute to the definition of team OKRs
  • Align with Compliance, Operations, and other engineering teams
  • Review technical proposals and help the team make trade-offs explicit
  • Contribute directly to design documents, code reviews, and incident follow-up
  • Improve team delivery practices, observability, reliability, and on-call processes
  • Be accountable for the reliability and availability of systems within the team's scope
  • Establish a clear technical vision for the area in partnership with Product and Design
  • Represent the team's technical choices and trade-offs to peers and leadership

Requirements

  • At least a first experience managing engineers (Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or Team Lead)
  • Credibility in technical conversations across backend systems, correctness constraints, and technical decision impacts
  • Comfort with event-driven architectures, asynchronous systems, and their trade-offs
  • Understanding of correctness, auditability, and reliability in financial systems
  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous environments and clarify ownership
  • Experience working in remote or hybrid environments with distributed and multicultural teams
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs to diverse audiences
