About the Role
We are looking for an engineer who understands how healthcare systems operate and will own the platform's connections to them. You will be responsible for the integrations that facilitate care delivery and business payments, including current connections, future growth, and the associated revenue cycle.
Responsibilities
- Own billing and claims end to end, building and operating the pipeline from delivered care to payment, including handling denials and rework.
- Make the revenue path observable, auditable, and reliable.
- Own healthcare integrations, designing, building, and running connections to EHRs, clinical partners, eligibility and benefits services, and claims infrastructure.
- Manage the complexities of integrations, including retries, idempotency, partial failures, backfills, and reconciliation.
- Model healthcare data accurately, transforming external payloads into a clean internal data model for product and AI systems.
- Build for failure by implementing monitoring, alerting, and reconciliation to proactively address issues with third-party systems.
- Serve as the domain expert, guiding the team on coverage, coding, claims, and clinical data flow, and challenging designs that may not be viable in practice.
- Decide on build vs. buy strategies for necessary components, evaluating vendors and owning the outcomes.
- Lay the foundation for scale by making architectural decisions that accommodate significant growth in volume and partner numbers.
Requirements
- Significant experience building software in healthcare with a deep understanding of the domain.
- Proven experience building and operating healthcare integrations in production (EHRs, payers, clearinghouses, eligibility services, labs, or similar), including on-call responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience with the revenue cycle, including claims submission, coding, eligibility and benefits verification, payments and denials, or prior authorization.
- Strong backend engineering skills in API design, data modeling, queues and background jobs, idempotency, and system reconciliation.
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as FHIR, HL7, X12, and standard coding systems.
- Experience working with PHI under HIPAA, prioritizing security and auditability in design.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity.
