About the Role
The On Call Carpenter works onsite at Knox under the direction and supervision of the Facility Manager, performing minor renovations, non-structural carpentry projects, and repairs and maintenance requiring carpentry skills across our property, facilities and grounds. Typical projects include renovating program and office spaces, drywall installation and finishing, flooring replacement and subfloor build-outs.
Responsibilities
- Executes space renovation projects as directed by the Facility Manager, including demolition, drywall installation, taping, mudding and finishing.
- Replaces flooring, including removal of existing materials, subfloor repair and build-out, levelling and installation of hardwood and vinyl flooring.
- Performs finish work, including painting, caulking, trim carpentry and cabinetry installation and repair.
- Performs exterior work as required, including exterior trim, siding and aluminum flashing.
- Reads and works from basic blueprints, drawings and sketches.
- Performs general repairs requiring carpentry skills, including door hardware and drywall patching.
- Escalates work requiring a licensed trade or structural expertise to the Facility Manager per Knox protocols.
- Documents completed work and flags emerging issues through Knox's work request process.
- Assists with infrastructure projects as requested by the Facility Manager.
- Submits hourly timesheets, bi-weekly.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of carpentry experience.
- Trade certification, apprenticeship standing or equivalent practical experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with drywall installation and finishing, steel and wood framing, subfloor construction, and hardwood and vinyl flooring installation.
- Demonstrated experience with trim carpentry and cabinetry.
- Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
- Demonstrated competence with hand and power tools and the ability to work safely with them.
- Minimum high school diploma.
- Prior Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, Working at Heights, Fire Safety, First Aid and AODA training would each be considered assets.
- Physical strength; able to lift up to 50 lbs, work from ladders and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Fluency with the English language, including the ability to speak, read and comprehend.
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable with email, phone and text; cell phone user.
- A valid driver's license would be an asset.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be willing to complete a police background check and comply with the policies of Knox Church.
