About the Role
The Research Analyst 1 researches, compiles, and analyzes data to support infrastructure management, maintenance, and claims for the Transportation Services division. This role involves maintaining inspection reports, developing computer models, and providing research support to management and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and archive inspection reports and photos related to Transportation Services assets.
- Summarize and report data findings using maps, tables, charts, and diagrams.
- Write reports and document findings regarding operational efficiencies, deficiencies, and public complaints.
- Develop, consolidate, and integrate computer models and applications for data storage and retrieval.
- Monitor service requests and work orders to forecast maintenance needs and update the 311 knowledge base.
- Analyze reports and assist management in preparing responses and follow-up actions.
- Maintain communication with City groups regarding asset inspection and rehabilitation.
- Utilize electronic systems such as TMMS/EWMS Maximo, GPS/AVL, and RACS.
- Prepare briefing notes, abstracts, and presentation materials using various analytical techniques.
- Maintain a library of research data, statistics, GIS data, and contract information.
- Develop, maintain, and modify geospatial and relational databases.
- Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders and prepare meeting notes.
- Act as a liaison between Divisional functions and Corporate Services.
- Assist in preparing tender documents for contracted services.
- Coordinate and assist in investigations, studies, and surveys.
- Provide research support to address inquiries from Councillors, the public, and consultants.
- Conduct research on existing and future work processes and functional roles.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Civil Technology, Municipal Infrastructure Transportation, Urban studies, or an approved equivalent.
- Considerable experience in research, data collection, analysis, and writing summaries for contract development or operations administration.
- Considerable experience with GPS/AVL software, including reports, data manipulation, and extraction.
- Considerable experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Experience in tender contract preparation.
- Possession of a valid class G Province of Ontario Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain a City of Toronto Drivers Permit if required.
- Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and present quantitative and qualitative information.
- Knowledge of road operations levels of service for winter and summer.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, legislation, and policies including minimum maintenance standards, the City of Toronto Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Knowledge and understanding of Project Management principles.
- Ability to travel between locations throughout the City of Toronto.
