About the Role
The Financial Institutions and International Public Finance team at S&P Global Ratings covers banks, non-bank financial institutions, and public finance issuers across Australia and New Zealand. The team collaborates closely with global colleagues and alongside Sovereign and Insurance analysts, delivering rigorous credit analysis and trusted credit opinions in an international working environment.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to team analytical consistency by supporting workflow improvement initiatives and adhering to shared standards, processes, and documentation requirements.
- Collect and analyze economic and financial data for assigned credits, maintaining models and databases and preparing well-supported materials for rating committees under the direction of senior analysts.
- Apply AI tools and automation to support research, data analysis, and analytical workflows, maintaining structured validation and accurate documentation.
- Support the preparation of high-quality credit reports and communications for investors and internal stakeholders, engaging with external parties under the guidance of senior analysts.
- Ensure adherence to analytical methodology, confidentiality standards, and data governance requirements, escalating emerging issues early with clear options and recommendations.
- Contribute to industry research, internal projects, and working groups, supporting process improvements that enhance analytical efficiency.
- Coach Research Assistants and Rating Analysts on credit analysis, data discipline, and analytical tooling, building team consistency through shared standards and the responsible adoption of AI tools.
- Lead credit analysis for an assigned portfolio of financial institution and international public finance credits across Australia and New Zealand, managing surveillance and updates with high standards of quality and timeliness.
- Apply large language model tools and automation in recurring analytical workflows, reviewing inputs, reconciling metrics, and documenting assumptions to maintain adherence to methodology and operating procedures.
- Engage with senior executives and internal and external stakeholders, translating complex financial and analytical information into clear credit opinions and high-quality rating reports.
- Contribute to controlled automation and agentic workflows, supporting design requirements, testing, and rollout while maintaining appropriate governance and human oversight.
Requirements
- 1+ years of relevant experience in credit analysis, financial analysis, or a related analytical role.
- Demonstrated analytical background in credit analysis, bank treasury, corporate treasury, economics, or equity research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts, with the ability to analyze complex financial data.
- Demonstrated ability to manage assigned analytical tasks, maintain models and databases, and contribute to committee materials with clear documentation and timely delivery.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to manipulate large datasets and work with financial and credit models.
- Experience with the analysis of financial institutions or international public finance issuers in Australia or New Zealand.
- Practical experience applying AI tools to data analysis, research, or analytical workflow automation.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in credit analysis, financial institution analysis, or a related analytical role.
- Demonstrated analytical experience in credit analysis within financial institutions, bank treasury, corporate treasury, or equity research, with an understanding of Australian and New Zealand financial markets.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts applicable to financial institution or international public finance credit assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality credit analysis across multiple credits with limited oversight and coach junior team members through shared standards and quality review.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with senior executives and convey complex analytical findings clearly to internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining credit models and databases, preparing committee-ready analytical materials, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
- Practical experience embedding AI, large language models, or agentic workflows into analytical processes to improve productivity and insight.
- Experience contributing to industry research, analytical working groups, or internal process improvement initiatives.
