About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Financial Controller, this leadership role is responsible for the governance and stewardship of WSI's financial accounting function. The role oversees accurate and timely financial reporting, manages complex technical accounting matters, leads audit and payroll activities, and supports key strategic and operational initiatives. The Finance Manager also leads a team of two Financial Accountants, driving high performance, continuous improvement, and compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements. This is a maximum term position to the end of January 2028.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop team members, fostering a collaborative, high-performing and customer-focused culture.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business, providing financial guidance, project support and commercial insights.
- Maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, including the ANAO, consultants and Commonwealth agencies.
- Lead the preparation of annual statutory financial statements and Commonwealth reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and regulatory obligations.
- Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring the General Ledger is completed accurately, timely and in accordance with reporting requirements.
- Manage external and internal audit activities, including coordination of responses, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of audit outcomes.
- Provide technical accounting leadership and advice on accounting standards, financial policies, procedures, and complex transactions.
- Oversee reconciliations of the General Ledger and key supporting systems, including project, payroll and corporate expenditure reporting.
- Manage tax compliance activities, including BAS, payroll tax, superannuation, PAYG withholding, and support for corporate income tax obligations.
- Act as the Finance SME for ERP systems, supporting enhancements, integrations and process optimisation initiatives.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, board reporting, and strategic financial decision-making.
- Support the Senior Financial Controller in maintaining robust financial controls, governance frameworks, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement through process simplification, automation, innovation, and system enhancements.
- Identify, monitor and mitigate financial and operational risks, ensuring effective risk management practices.
Requirements
- Proven Finance Manager experience in a large complex organization.
- Minimum 6 to 8 years' senior experience in financial accounting, reporting and compliance within large, complex organisations.
- Experience in the airport / aviation sector would be highly regarded.
- Experience with Workday Financials or a comparable ERP system, including system enhancements and process optimisation.
- Demonstrated experience managing payroll operations and related compliance obligations.
- Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex financial information into practical business outcomes.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy, quality and continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers and business cases.
- Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organisation.
- Sound commercial and strategic judgement, with an enterprise-wide perspective and customer-focused approach.
