About the Role

The Business Development (BD) Supervisor will support pitches, request for proposals (RFPs), directory and award submissions, events and sponsorships, marketing materials, strategic BD and marketing initiatives, competitive intelligence, and other BD and marketing activities for the Special Matters and Government Investigations Practice Group, working closely with the global Marketing and BD department.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, draft, and coordinate content for RFP responses and presentations for pitches and new business opportunities.
  • Maintain pitch/RFP files, log in the pitch tracking system, and obtain outcome updates.
  • Streamline pitch and proposal responses by leveraging the Foundation database.
  • Draft legal directory and award submissions and assist the Communications team with matter and information generation.
  • Facilitate a streamlined process for collecting matters and references.
  • Identify and coordinate participation in sponsorships, conferences, memberships, and other profile-building opportunities.
  • Handle firm-hosted BD events, including receptions, client entertainment, presentations, and webinars.
  • Collaborate with lawyers and Marketing Department colleagues on invitation lists, event materials, participant tracking, engagement, on-site management, follow-up, and ROI analysis for events.
  • Routinely update PowerPoint pitch decks, fact sheets, and website content.
  • Develop and deliver new content marketing to clients and prospective clients in coordination with the Brand and Creative team.
  • Facilitate internal communications regarding BD activities, successes, and opportunities.
  • Promote the practice through the website, social media, and public relations with the Communications team.
  • Partner with stakeholders to facilitate strategic cross-selling and cross-marketing opportunities.
  • Craft and execute go-to-market strategies for cross-selling and cross-marketing opportunities.
  • Support client targeting exercises, including prompting and monitoring BD activities and tracking/reporting results.
  • Conduct and coordinate strategic research on potential clients, competitors, and practice developments to identify business trends and opportunities.
  • Identify, develop, and deliver timely and relevant topics for thought leadership and client outreach campaigns.
  • Onboard laterals, assist with business plan development, and provide BD coaching for individual partners.
  • Support ad-hoc BD and firm initiatives as required.
  • Oversee budget tracking and provide support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • MBA or JD is a plus.
  • 5+ years of professional marketing and BD experience, preferably in a law firm environment.
  • Strong interest or track record in investigations and regulatory enforcement.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with partners and collaboratively with other lawyers and business services colleagues.
  • Advanced project management capability with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple ongoing tasks under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Flexible, proactive, big picture, forward-thinking, energetic, and detail-oriented team player.
  • Willingness to lend support where needed and beyond the scope of the role.
  • Excellent communication skills (presentation, writing, verbal), with the ability to tailor messages for varied audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, incorporating feedback effectively.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of many matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with customer relationship management/content systems (BD Hub, Foundation).
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools (Microsoft Copilot, Harvey).
