About the Role
The Director of Student Financial Services leads the operational and technical administration of the university's Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Veterans Affairs educational benefits. This role focuses on digital transformation, optimizing the Student Information System, and ensuring compliant, student-centric service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Oversee parameterization, configuration, and testing of financial aid, billing, and VA benefit modules within the Student Information System.
- Serve as the primary functional lead for the Ellucian Colleague system.
- Develop reporting tools and validation processes to ensure data integrity.
- Identify opportunities for automation, self-service tools, and predictive analytics to enhance the student experience.
- Partner with IT to manage system updates, patches, and integrations with external platforms.
- Ensure data accuracy across financial records and billing ledgers.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure audit readiness.
- Ensure adherence to U.S. Department of Education Title IV regulations and state financial aid laws.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of annual compliance audits, program reviews, and FISAP reporting.
- Design and document internal controls to minimize institutional risk.
- Oversee the allocation, reconciliation, and disbursement of institutional, federal, and scholarship funds.
- Manage Return of Title IV Funds calculations and internal audits regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- Review complex financial aid appeals and professional judgment evaluations.
- Supervise, train, and mentor professional and support staff.
- Develop and report on departmental Key Performance Indicators and trends.
- Serve as a liaison between Student Financial Services, Admissions, the Registrar, and Institutional Research.
- Resolve complex, escalated student and parent financial disputes.
- Design and execute training workshops for staff and financial literacy programs for students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education financial aid.
- Minimum of 3 years of management or supervisory experience.
- Advanced proficiency with enterprise student information systems.
- Deep understanding of Department of Education Title IV regulations, NASFAA standards, NSLDS, and COD.
- Working knowledge of Department of Veterans Affairs regulations.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
