About the Role

The Assistant Stylist is a temporary position intended to prepare talent for a stylist role, focusing on guest engagement, hair care consultations, and product/service recommendations. The role involves supporting and learning from an Elite or Master Stylist, with a focus on performance, guest service, and operational standards. After three months, the Assistant Stylist will begin servicing their own guests.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to store goals for sales, loyalty, and shrink.
  • Support mentor Stylist in meeting sales and productivity goals for hair services and products.
  • Perform add-on recommendations, shampoos, treatments, blowouts, styling, color applications, and assist with foils.
  • Handle cleaning, sanitation, and organizing duties.
  • Assist with pre-booking and retail recommendations.
  • After month three, perform hair services including design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing.
  • Perform product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, understanding ingredients and benefits.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Develop guest relationships through consultations and recommendations.
  • Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner under mentorship.
  • Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total-store guest experience.
  • Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships to foster collaboration in guest service.
  • Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, credit, and Ulta Beauty app with guests.
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures, complying with state board guidelines.
  • Follow established service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
  • Utilize booking and clientele systems to book guests for return services and events.
  • Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
  • Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for professional development.
  • Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
  • Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices and providing exceptional guest service.
  • Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Requirements

  • Cosmetology license
  • Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of the latest salon techniques for performing haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing services.
  • Aptitude to develop skills and capabilities in all service categories.
  • Basic understanding of the use of equipment and chemicals needed to perform technical work.
  • Basic understanding to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
  • Developed communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Ability to build clientele.
