About the Role
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Rail & Track Engineer to join our growing team. Our rail engineers possess a broad range of experience from inside the rail industry and bring a clear understanding of the unique nature of railroad projects. We offer a full range of rail services to Class 1, short line, transit agencies, as well as Department of Transportation and other rail clients. Our professionals provide services for rail freight, intercity passenger rail, commuter rail, and industrial installations. Our expertise ranges from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design, construction inspection and operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering calculations and create estimates.
- Research and apply code provisions to design.
- Create cost estimates for project alternatives.
- Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures and make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
- Interpret drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects.
- Create 3D models.
- Research design options and document findings for project manager.
- Submit concept designs and work through the approval processes.
- Lead the technical design and assigned staff on rail projects while developing work plans for various track designs and coordinate with disciplines.
- Assist in the development of technical narratives, scope and fee for project pursuits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
- 8+ years of Class I railroad track design experience required.
- PE (Professional Engineer) license required.
- Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads required.
- Ability to ensure designs are in accordance with company and client production and design standards.
- A team player and be able to work independently.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
