About the Role

This high impact role is involved in the design and development of Arresters for Eaton’s Line Installation and Protective Equipment (LIPE) product line. Creativity and innovation are focused on leading teams and developing new electro-mechanical product solutions for application on electrical power systems. This role is a key contributor to cross functional project teams that push concepts through a formal project process. It is expected that you will have the ability to lead and execute small projects or serve as a core team member on large projects. This position works directly with a broad set of technologies including metal oxide varistors (MOVs), polymers, rubber moldings, castings, and metal fabrications. Assignments range in scope from high level system concepts to detailed sub-system development and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Creatively and efficiently solve design challenges by understanding the elements within a design that are critical for success, while eliminating the non-value-added elements
  • Translate internal and external customer requirements into measurable performance criteria, and identify and resolve poorly defined or missing requirements
  • Develop sub-system functional and reliability test plans, and coordinate the execution of the tests using both internal and external lab resources
  • Perform Design for Cost/Design for Manufacture Analysis (DFM/DFA) on individual parts and subassemblies, with the ability to propose alternate materials and methods of assembly and manufacture
  • Guide teams of development engineers on the business unit’s biggest projects
  • Provide technical leadership across the business, even on unassigned projects and efforts
  • Ideate, organize, and lead functional improvement efforts within the department and larger business
  • Mentor engineers and technicians on best practices for all aspects of documentation and tolerance of design for manufacturing
  • Lead problem solving techniques to resolve root cause analysis, including problems related to customer concerns
  • Ability to travel up to 25% for customer visits, supplier visits and test lab facilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in new product design of medium or high voltage electrical products

Skills

  • Knowledge in the application of medium voltage electrical distribution equipment
  • Knowledge of metal oxide varistor technology (arresters)
  • Familiarity with IEEE C62.11 and IEC 60099-4 applicable arrester standards
  • Familiarity with C Sharp, VBNet, SQL Management Programming
  • Kinematic/Dynamic Analysis experience
  • Knowledge of power test equipment and measurement instrumentation
  • Six Sigma green belt or black belt trained
  • Experience in Engineering analysis, digital simulation, and 3D modeling (CAD, FEA, statistical analysis, software applications, electrical/mechanical analysis tools, etc.)
  • Product design, DFM/DFA, and manufacturing knowledge
