About the Role
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Crew Chief to join our growing Survey team in Austin, TX. Our professionals perform terrestrial and boundary surveys, construction stakeouts and as-built surveys for existing and new residential and commercial properties. Our capabilities also include the use of hi-definition laser scanners which enable our surveyors to collect data from a multitude of subjects including complex facilities, buildings and assets, bridges, structures, and roadways all of which depend upon our specialized measurement equipment and experienced operators.
Responsibilities
- Lead one, two, or three-person crews.
- Perform design surveys, right-of-way surveys, topographic surveys, aerial ground control, boundary and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
- Plan and execute field surveys within scope and budget using efficient methods and applicable standards.
- Supervise and direct other survey crew members.
- Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
- Prepare accurate field notes and daily activity reports promptly.
- Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and land surveys with moderate assistance.
- Prepare cut sheets for construction assignments and review data collection validity.
- Analyze and develop solutions for project issues.
- Operate and maintain the survey vehicle according to company policy.
- Maintain, transport, and operate surveying instruments and equipment.
- Adhere to corporate and client Health and Safety programs and SOPs.
- Review and instruct crew on safety hazards, PPE, and work procedures.
- Use and instruct others on the proper use of Total Stations, Data Collectors, GNSS, and other survey equipment.
- Electronically transfer field data, photos, and forms to the office team daily.
- Mentor field survey staff to facilitate advancement.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Proficiency with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations, and leveling.
- Experience with or ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
- Self-starter with minimal need for supervision.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English for job-related communications and instructions.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in random drug and alcohol testing.
