About the Role

This position involves research and development of system performance and low-latency technologies for future generations of PlayStation. You will oversee the entire system, including OS, middleware, devices, and hardware, to optimize processing pipelines from input to rendering, and drive research and verification of new architectures and elemental technologies. This role challenges technical issues at the intersection of software and hardware, contributing to the creation of core technologies that support PlayStation's high-quality gaming experience.

Responsibilities

  • Research and development of system performance and low-latency technologies for future generations of PlayStation.
  • Analysis of system behavior and performance evaluation, including OS, middleware, and devices.
  • Planning, technical verification, and prototyping of new approaches in the input-to-rendering processing pipeline.
  • Proposing, implementing, and evaluating performance improvement measures from a system architecture perspective.
  • Technical verification for deploying research results to product development and collaboration with related teams.

Requirements

  • Understanding of system architecture and ability to design, implement, and evaluate software.
  • Team software development experience using version control tools like Git.
  • Knowledge and development experience in multithreaded programming.
  • 3+ years of software development experience using C/C++.
  • Development or debugging experience with OS or low-level software (device drivers, kernel, etc.).
  • Knowledge and development experience in Linux kernel or device drivers.
  • Knowledge and development experience in virtualization technologies.
  • Design, development, verification, and debugging experience in areas close to SoC/LSI.
  • Knowledge and experience in computer architecture, including CPU and memory hierarchy.
  • Practical experience in performance analysis and profiling.
  • Experience in technical communication using English.
  • Ability to read technical specifications.
  • Ability to perform basic technical communication via email.
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency (equivalent to JLPT N1 or higher).
  • Ability to proactively address problem-solving in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to logically analyze complex technical issues and derive fundamental solutions.
  • High interest in new technologies and research trends, with a commitment to continuous learning through papers and conferences.
  • Desire to pursue technological exploration and challenge the creation of new value supporting the future of PlayStation.
