About the Role
Episcopal Community Services (ECS) is seeking an Employment Specialist to assist participants, many of whom are unhoused, in re-entering the job market and securing living wage employment. This client-facing role involves assessing employment barriers, providing job readiness training, and connecting individuals with career pathways and job opportunities. The work is meaningful but can be demanding, requiring sound judgment and adherence to safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of participants seeking employment services.
- Assess participant employment barriers and needs.
- Assist job seekers with developing job search tools and skills.
- Provide job readiness training to Occupational Skills Trainees.
- Help participants access employment opportunities and identify career pathways.
- Support job seekers in setting and achieving their employment goals.
- Monitor and evaluate participant progress towards employment.
- Provide direct support to participants through job placement.
- Arrange employment interviews and attend job fairs.
- Assist with workshops, presentations, group orientations, and other training activities.
- Identify and help participants resolve barriers to employability.
- Make referrals for support services such as housing, legal, transportation, and counseling.
- Provide light-touch financial coaching and referrals for financial assistance.
- Maintain participant data and case notes in relevant systems.
- Communicate participant progress and barriers to relevant staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Lived or professional experience in workforce development/case management.
- Understanding and empathy of issues facing unhoused people.
- Demonstrable knowledge of computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft applications or Google Office Suite.
- Experience working with multi-cultural and underserved populations.
- Familiarity and comfort with the harm reduction model.
- Ability to maintain healthy boundaries.
- Must secure finger image screening and annual TB screening.
- Must be able to pass CDCR background check.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements including standing, sitting, kneeling, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Demonstrate behavior that supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- Adhere to all program, funder, and organizational policies and procedures.
