About the Role

Operate the electric distribution and/or sub transmission network safely by providing real-time control and managing routine and emergency switching and control requirements for field personnel, in accordance with all regulatory and industry requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an operationally excellent Distribution Control Center, responsible for safe, reliable, and effective operation of the electric system for routine, emergency, and outage restoration activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulating agency and company standards and procedures.
  • Develop strategy, objectives, and metrics to drive continuous performance improvement through consistent use of best practices across all distribution control centers.
  • Take responsibility for facilitating the delivery of National Grid’s Capital and maintenance plans and response to system outages in accordance with appropriate regulations and procedures while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain close and effective working relationships with the Transmission Control Center, Distribution Control Centers, field workforce, and control center support roles to ensure coordinated strategies, communications, and processes.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external organizations, companies, and regulatory bodies to ensure customer safety and satisfaction, and build a clear understanding of operational expectations, communication requirements, and regulatory mandates.
  • Ensure all staff and operators are fully trained and certified as appropriate.
  • Exercise normal supervisory functions including employee selection, assignment, transfers, training and development, affirmative action, safety, discipline, performance evaluation, counseling, and termination.
  • Manage the work activities of employees, establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of qualifying relevant experience as an Operator, Control Room Supervisor, or similar control center role with knowledge of the operation of electric distribution and transmission systems and equipment.
  • 5-10 years of experience including supervisory and electric T&D operations experience, with working knowledge of Transmission & Distribution network operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience, including direct supervision, performance management, and team development.
  • Must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

  • General knowledge of wholesale and distribution markets
  • Experience with control center digital products and advanced tools; SCADA EMS, ADMS, databases and project management tools preferred.
