About the Role

The Fathering Specialist/Peer Mentor supports fathers enrolled in the program by providing guidance, encouragement, and practical support. Drawing from lived experience, this role helps participants build positive parenting skills, strengthen family relationships, and navigate personal challenges, serving as a role model and advocate for responsible fatherhood and healthy family engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive case management services including individual/group counseling for non-custodial fathers aged 18+ interested in being more involved with their children.
• Conduct parenting classes and other group work.
• Interview prospective fathers to assess needs and readiness for service.
• Develop and implement service plans.
• Coordinate services with Life/Career Coach.
• Provide face-to-face contact with clients at least twice a month.
• Attend meetings and conferences with service providers and related agencies.
• Provide crisis intervention to participants.
• Document all activities and attempted activities related to planning and service provision.
• Maintain and manage all record-keeping requirements for clients in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate in unit meetings, in-service training, and other activities to enhance job performance.
• Conduct client recruitment in the community and with other organizations.
• Coordinate services with Fathering Specialist to ensure fathers have necessary support.
• Participate in parenting, conflict resolution, anger management, healthy relationship groups, and other program-related activities.
• Assist in emergency situations.
• Perform other duties as required by the supervisor or program/agency needs.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
• Great organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Energetic, self-directed, and goals-focused approach to working with non-custodial fathers.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
• Ability to travel.
• Flexibility; evenings and weekend hours may be required.
