About the Role
The Medical Assistant provides assistance to licensed medical providers in clinic and surgical settings, delivering safe, knowledgeable, and compassionate individualized patient care.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a patient advocate during exams and treatments
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, or surgeries
- Record medical history, medications, allergies, and test results
- Obtain necessary consent forms
- Prepare and administer medications per physician direction
- Collect, log, and prepare laboratory specimens
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, and care instructions to patients
- Assist physicians with examinations and surgical procedures
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
- Maintain clean and organized treatment rooms
- Inspect sterile items and maintain sterile fields
- Assess patient condition and notify providers of distress
- Clean medical equipment and dispose of biohazard waste
- Schedule patient appointments and tests
- Greet patients upon arrival
- Inventory and stock medical supplies and equipment
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
- Document all procedures accurately and timely
- Respond to emergency situations according to facility protocols
- Maintain emergency supplies and equipment
Requirements
- One or more years of experience in a medical setting preferred
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications
- Detail-oriented with a professional and reliable attitude
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective English communication skills
- Basic to intermediate mathematical and analytical ability
- Basic to intermediate computer operation skills
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations and HIPAA guidelines
