About the Role

Provides guidance and leadership for the clinical practice of staff in ambulatory settings at Newport Health Center (NHC). Accountable for the quality of nursing care service in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and the NH Board of Nursing rules. Collaborates with Medical Director, providers, and Practice Leadership to ensure the development and ongoing competence of clinical support staff. Works closely with the NLH Primary Care Operations team to build consistent clinical processes across locations and with the CNO to meet system nursing practice goals.

Responsibilities

Directly responsible for operational and performance management of RN/LPN, CMA, and other clinical staff.
Manages clinical staff schedules, time away, and payroll, ensuring appropriate clinical coverage for providers.
Develops and implements an onboarding program for new clinical staff.
Provides leadership in emergent situations and during the activation of the Emergency Activation Plan.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency preparedness.
Maintains clinical skills to provide direct patient care as needed.
Maintains a presence in the clinical area and engages in discussions about patient care.
Maintains skills to function as an EMR 'super user'.
Participates in the review of existing policies and procedures and develops new ones.
Collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to maintain communication and provide optimal patient care.
Role models professional standards of behavior and nursing practice.
Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Services to develop leadership and operational skills of ambulatory nurses.
Actively engages staff in educational activities.
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with Nursing Director and organizational leadership.
Provides feedback to the Director of Clinical Services regarding practice observations.
May participate in performance improvement plans for designated staff.
Promotes clinical environments for ongoing staff education and resource utilization.
Collaborates with the Primary Care Operations team to standardize clinical and operational processes.
Works closely with NLH Ambulatory Nurse Manager to ensure consistency of high-quality clinical care.
Provides clinical consultation and assistance to other patient care areas.
Develops programs and strategies to ensure ongoing competency of RN clinical staff.
Maintains professional competence through education programs and workshops.
Collaborates with the Clinical Educator on clinical education opportunities and mandates.
Accountable for working with staff to ensure Rural Health Center (RHC) survey readiness.
Assists and supports Practice Leadership in the implementation and evaluation of performance improvement indicators.
Serves as a 'champion' for designated initiatives through role modeling, education, and evaluation.
Serves as a resource to clinical staff for specialty-based information and research.
Promotes clinical practice based on best evidence.
Promotes a culture of patient-centered care and works with the Patient Experience Program Manager.
Demonstrates ability to work effectively and collaboratively with physician leaders and colleagues to ensure quality patient care.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience
Experience in Ambulatory setting preferred
BSN preferred
