About the Role

This role is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas within the hospital and/or off-site facilities, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and associates.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect assigned areas including patient rooms, offices, restrooms, and other hospital areas.
  • Operate various cleaning equipment following department procedures.
  • Use chemicals and solutions according to department policy.
  • Maintain orderly, clean, and safe work areas.
  • Utilize AIDET with internal and external customers.
  • Identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively.
  • Demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Display patience and tact when dealing with hospital personnel.
  • Maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude towards patients, families, and contacts.
  • Maintain confidential patient and departmental information.
  • Utilize the appropriate chain of command for resolving issues.
  • Thoroughly wash and sanitize beds and rooms after patient discharges.
  • Make beds with clean linen according to department procedures.
  • Select and transport appropriate cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels and toilet tissue.
  • Collect waste and sanitize garbage cans.
  • Observe and follow Standard Precautions, Infection Control Policies, and departmental policies.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills.
  • Place soiled linen in linen chutes.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and attractive environment.
  • Wash hands thoroughly throughout the day and adhere to handwash policy.
  • Prepare detergents, germicidal solutions, and other cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  • Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop floor areas.
  • Spot clean carpets using appropriate solutions.
  • Shampoo furniture, carpets, and rugs using appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Identify types of soiling and utilize proper solutions.
  • Handle chemicals and solutions following departmental policies.
  • Ensure all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers.
  • Adhere to safety regulations.
  • Move equipment and furniture for cleaning, rearrangement, and/or relocation.
  • Arrange furniture for meetings and events according to specifications.
  • Clean equipment and notify supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Appropriately report safety hazards.
  • Return unused supplies, clean carts and equipment, and ensure orderly replacement.
  • Collect and/or distribute soiled and/or clean linens.
  • Collect trash and/or waste from all areas of the hospital.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to procedures.
  • Sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and inservices.
  • Complete annual CBTs required.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests.
  • Request PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice for absences and call two hours before the beginning of the shift if absent.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Able to operate small electrical equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and comprehending chemical labels and safety materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate.
  • Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
