About the Role

This role is responsible for the registration and scheduling process for complex patients within the Community Neurology department. You will interact with a diverse patient population, maintain patient records using an electronic medical record system, and ensure adherence to payer requirements for referrals and authorizations.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients, update insurance information, and schedule visits.
  • Interact with a diverse patient population.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record to maintain patient records.
  • Provide proper consents for patients who are wards of the state and work with facilities to obtain consents from patient proxies.
  • Adhere to payer requirements for referrals and authorization.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals, and prior authorizations.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with providers, patients, clinical care team, and insurance companies.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct them appropriately.
  • Convey a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
  • Prepare patient disability and out of work/school paperwork.
  • Discuss financial obligations and explain regulatory forms.
  • Work in multiple systems during patient-facing interactions and telephone call receipts.
  • Understand the practice and hospital strategic plan.
  • Support plans, policies, procedures, and initiatives within the department's expectations and role.
  • Represent the organization and support its ideals and principles.
  • Exemplify guiding principles.
  • Ensure an optimal patient experience.
  • Understand and promote patient and employee safety.
  • Promote a safe environment and promptly report issues.
  • Understand patient safety goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • 2-3 years office experience or one year of related experience in a medical practice preferred.
  • Experience using an electronic health record and Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high patient volume unit.
  • Ability to learn and utilize resources.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to review information and draw appropriate conclusions.
  • Good judgment and ability to problem-solve; escalate issues as needed.
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic.
  • Access to information is based on a “need to know” and is the minimum necessary to properly perform assigned duties.
  • Use or disclosure shall not exceed the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish an intended purpose.
