About the Role
The NI ADG Customer Centric Solutions Team seeks an experienced Principal Systems Design Engineer to work on custom engineering opportunities that enable the sale of standard NI Products. This role involves defining, documenting, designing, deploying, and sustaining NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large-scale turnkey engineering solutions. It requires interaction with customers, sales personnel, engineering teams, alliance partners, and contract manufacturers, and offers high visibility within NI with daily interaction with key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Interacting with a wide variety of NI customers, NI staff, external alliance partners and suppliers in support of designing, implementing and sustaining custom solutions
- Generating requirements documents, statements of work and Bills of Materials
- Defining and implementing project plans, managing milestones and holding reviews to ensure systems meet requirements and readiness for deployment
- Specifying, designing, prototyping, testing, and deploying turnkey automated solutions
- Directing support personnel, managing project technical deliverables, guiding technical decisions and driving field found issues to resolution
- Traveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives
Requirements
- B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Technology
- Minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design Role or a Test Engineering Design Role
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering, electronics & computer architecture
- Understanding of high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++/C#)
- Demonstrated understanding of sources of measurement error
- Demonstrated understanding of appropriate selection of test and measurement instrumentation and equipment
- Demonstrated understanding of schematics and wiring diagrams
- Demonstrated understanding of integration of hardware and software
- Demonstrated understanding of Bill of Materials creation and review
- Familiarity with CAD and PCB design tools
- Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis of data (Cp, Cpk, GR&R)
- Demonstrated understanding of Cable Harness Design
- Hands on use of schematic capture tools and PCB design tools
- Knowledge in Component Supplier Selection
- Knowledge in Compliance Certifications (CE, UL, TUV, Etc.)
- Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and Instruments
- Hands on use of NI LabVIEW and Test Stand
- US Person (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined by 22 CFR §120) may be considered, ability to work on ITAR projects and qualify for DoD Clearances
