About the Role

The Assurance Senior, Third Party Attestation is responsible for preparing third-party attestation reports for various standards including SOC, HITRUST, SSPA, ISO, MRC, and CSA STAR. This role involves documenting, validating, testing, and assessing control systems and specializing in specific areas of technology risk.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and considers all applicable policies, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Makes constructive suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Documents and validates the operating effectiveness of clients’ internal control systems.
  • Supervises and reviews the work of staff.
  • Documents business and IT processes and controls and tests key controls for service organizations.
  • Identifies and prioritizes key risks and assesses their impact and likelihood of occurrence.
  • Communicates areas for improvement to the client.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with client personnel and management.
  • Ensures technology is appropriately integrated into the examination process.
  • Develops and applies an intermediate knowledge of auditing theory, audit skepticism, and the use of BDO audit manuals.
  • Applies auditing theory to various client situations.
  • Documents working papers and attestation reports in line with BDO policy.
  • Applies knowledge to identify instances where testing may be reduced or expanded.
  • Contributes ideas and opinions to the engagement team.
  • Plans and executes attestation examinations.
  • Reads and reviews clients’ reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepares required communications to the Client and the Audit Committee.
  • Recognizes and applies new pronouncements to client situations.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and discusses alternative principles.
  • Identifies complex issues and brings them to the attention of superiors.
  • Coaches less experienced team members.
  • Completes all appropriate documentation of BDO work papers.
  • Ensures assigned work is performed in accordance with BDO methodology and requirements.
  • Researches basic and intermediate accounting topics and forms an initial opinion.
  • Provides verbal and written performance feedback to Associates.
  • Supervises the work assignments of Associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; focus in Accounting, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Managerial Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Finance or Economics, preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting and minor or dual major in Information Systems or other relevant advanced degree, preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in IT, internal or external audit, required.
  • One (1) or more year of supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Experience performing internal control reviews preferred.
  • Experience performing SOC, WebTrust, HITRUST, SOX, ISO 27001 and security/privacy advisory engagements, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required.
  • Experience with various applications (e.g., ERP systems), operating systems (e.g., UNIX, Windows); and databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL), preferred.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, SaaS applications, security and engineering tools, and other industry software, preferred.
  • Basic understanding and experience planning and coordinating the stages to perform technology-focused audits and assessments.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and professional standards and regulations (SOC, ISO, WebTrust, HITRUST, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc).
  • Knowledge of data analytics and emerging technologies desired.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style and messaging to effectively communicate and interact with professionals at all levels.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently and within a group environment.
  • Solid analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to break down complex issues and implement appropriate resolutions.
  • Capable of working in a demanding, deadline-driven environment with a focus on details and accuracy.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.

  • Colorado Range: $78,000 - $85,000
  • Illinois Range: $79,000 - $90,000

  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $85,000 - $95,000
