About the Role

As a Driver in JASA's Brooklyn Home Delivered Meals Program, you'll play a vital role in delivering nutritious meals and supportive services to homebound older adults throughout New York City. Your work helps ensure older adults receive meals safely, reliably, and with compassion while supporting daily transportation and program operations.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate agency vehicles to deliver meals and supplies to homebound older adults.
  • Assist clients entering and exiting vehicles when necessary.
  • Follow all traffic laws and agency driving policies.
  • Report accidents, vehicle concerns, or traffic violations immediately.
  • Monitor client well-being during deliveries.
  • Report wellness or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Provide respectful, compassionate customer service to older adults.
  • Maintain agency vehicles in clean and safe operating condition.
  • Check fluids, tires, and general vehicle condition.
  • Coordinate fuel and oil purchases according to agency procedures.
  • Ensure required emergency equipment is available.
  • Change tires when necessary.
  • Assist with meal packaging and preparation.
  • Clean thermal containers, delivery bags, and equipment.
  • Help maintain clean food preparation and storage areas.
  • Assist with inventory and supply organization.
  • Complete trip tickets and operational records.
  • Collect participant contributions, issue receipts, and reconcile collections according to agency procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of driving experience
  • Valid Class A, B, or CDL Driver's License
  • Clean driving record
  • No more than one moving violation within the past two years
  • No DUI/DWI within the past eight years
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to climb stairs and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work respectfully with older adults
  • Reliable, professional, and safety-focused
