About the Role

The Swedish Institute is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Dean of Surgical Technology to lead and manage all aspects of its Surgical Technology Program. The Dean will provide strategic academic leadership, ensure regulatory compliance, foster a culture of excellence in teaching and learning, and strengthen clinical partnerships to support student success and workforce readiness. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader committed to maintaining the program’s high standards and aligning it with industry developments, accreditation requirements, and institutional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Surgical Technology curriculum in alignment with accreditation and certification standards.
  • Ensure the integration of evidence-based practices and emerging technologies into coursework and labs.
  • Lead efforts to evaluate student learning outcomes and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Surgical Technology Program including class scheduling, faculty assignment, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Develop, submit, and maintain documentation required for program accreditation and regulatory reporting.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and evaluate faculty and instructional staff within the program.
  • Promote faculty professional development and support faculty excellence in teaching and mentoring.
  • Facilitate regular faculty meetings and encourage collaboration and innovation in instructional delivery.
  • Support student advising, academic progression, and graduation planning.
  • Address student concerns and facilitate a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Champion initiatives that promote student retention, success on the national certification exam (CST), and career placement.
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with clinical affiliates to secure high-quality externship placements.
  • Ensure clinical experiences meet program requirements and provide opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge.
  • Monitor student performance in clinical settings and collaborate with site preceptors.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of institutional strategic goals as a key member of the academic leadership team.
  • Collaborate with admissions, student services, and career services to support enrollment growth and student outcomes.
  • Analyze program data and trends to inform decision-making and guide program improvements.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency is required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the NBSTSA.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in surgical technology.
  • At least 3 years of teaching or administrative experience in an accredited program.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
