About the Role

The Transportation Planner will be critical to efficiently schedule freight requirements for the organization by considering load planning, route optimization and compliance with all regulations of the freight industry. Through your ability to create a solid shipment plan, but also adjust on the fly as needed while maintaining minimum cost, you establish yourself as a pillar of the Supply Chain Team and the organization. This role is required to cover weekend days at times, rotating with other team members in the Transportation Team; time in-lieu will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Plans all inbound and outbound shipments for minimum cost
  • Assigns carriers to cover required freight
  • Develops strong relationships with the carriers to ensure transportation plans are executed flawlessly
  • Sources new carriers for improved value
  • Support the further development of the Load Planning Module (LPM / TMS) by providing feedback targeting improvements and closely working with the IT Team to implement such changes / opportunities for improvement
  • Analyzes routes and load plans for efficiency and coordinates with other teams for the implementation of such observations in future load plans for continuous improvement
  • Maintains complete and accurate information in LPM / TMS
  • Assist Transportation Coordinators on problem solving, as needed
  • Liaise with various internal teams for problem solving and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Transportation routing and scheduling including computer systems applications (MS Office – Excel, TMS), laws and regulations governing transportation and / or transportation brokerage experience, an asset
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong communication, problem solving, critical thinking, organization and analytical skills are required
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel) and ERP systems; additional TMS systems experience, an asset
