About the Role

The Experiential Learning & Makerspace Librarian provides strategic leadership for the development, operation, and assessment of the SPARC Lab (Makerspace). This role advances experiential, project-based, and interdisciplinary learning by integrating maker-centered pedagogies and emerging technologies into curricular and co-curricular experiences, fostering student success through high-impact educational practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day-to-day operations of the LSU Libraries SPARC Lab, including scheduling, policies and procedures, safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and supply management.
  • Oversees access, usage guidelines, and continuous improvement of the space.
  • Monitors trends in maker technologies, digital fabrication, and experiential learning.
  • Recommends, tests, and implements new tools, software, and workflows.
  • Identifies, assesses, and recommends emerging technologies and services that advance institutional priorities related to experiential learning, student success, and innovation.
  • Leads the development and implementation of a student employment program that serves as a high-impact experiential learning opportunity within the SPARC Lab.
  • Recruits, supervises, and mentors student employees, fostering technical expertise, leadership, problem-solving, project management, and customer service skills through intentional workplace learning.
  • Develops student learning outcomes, training programs, and reflective learning practices that connect student employment to academic success, professional growth, and career readiness.
  • Provides ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities while ensuring high-quality service, safe equipment operation, and effective support for makerspace users.
  • Provides instruction and training on makerspace equipment, technologies, and best practices through workshops, consultations, and course-integrated learning opportunities.
  • Collaborates, curates, and creates videos, tutorials, and other learning objects related to makerspace equipment and technologies to facilitate use.
  • Develops and coordinates SPARC Lab programs, events, workshops, and outreach initiatives that promote maker-centered learning and engagement across the campus community.
  • Partners with faculty, academic departments, and campus units to integrate makerspace resources and methodologies into curricular and co-curricular experiences, supporting experiential, project-based, and interdisciplinary learning.
  • Assesses SPARC Lab operations, technology utilization, student learning outcomes, and program effectiveness to support continuous improvement and demonstrate impact.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, cultivates partnerships, and advances innovation through the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Performs service to the libraries, university, and/or profession.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, MLS or MLIS, from an ALA accredited institution
  • 1 year of related experience
  • All candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.
