About the Role

Under the general supervision of a pharmacist, this role performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care. This role is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including preparing, distributing, and maintaining records for pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, and customer service. This role also assists with ordering, receiving, and inspecting medication and supplies.

Responsibilities

Prepares oral liquids and other extemporaneous dosage formulations.
Prepares sterile compounds following a recipe or production instructions.
Operates advanced, automated technology for preparation and documentation of sterile products.
Picks medications for automated dispensing cabinet replenishment.
Completes inventory management activities, including securing, storing, and maintaining records.
Fills floor stock remote orders accurately.
Maintains storeroom areas, orders supplies, and removes outdated medication.
Restocks medications into automated dispensing cabinets.
Manages emergency medication inventory in carts/kits.
Maintains medication rooms by stocking automated dispensing cabinets and removing expired/discontinued medications.
Empties return bins in automated dispensing cabinets.
Packages bulk medications and compounds non-sterile medications using the unit-dose machine.
Performs cycle counts of the carousel and maintains completion records.
Takes accountability for medication management in assigned patient care areas.
Assists in keeping the Pharmacy neat and clean.
Conducts temperature inspections of refrigerators in automated dispensing machines.
Performs financial transaction activities, including preparing billing information and troubleshooting insurance issues.
Inspects assigned medication storage areas monthly.
Greets and assists customers, participates in point of sale transactions, and engages in customer service activities.
Provides customer or patient assistance over the phone and triages calls.
Ensures all assigned work is completed accurately and quality control paperwork is completed.
Communicates effectively with nursing, physicians, and ancillary services.
Maintains collaborative team relationships with peers and colleagues.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration.
One (1) year of pharmacy-related experience.
Ability to walk and stand 90% of the day.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
Frequent reaching and grasping below, at, and above shoulder level.
Ability to push and/or pull non-motorized equipment weighing 40 to 60 lbs.
Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation.
Ability to see medications, computer screen, and reports.
Ability to read automated dispensing reports regularly.
Works in an area with some discomfort due to dust, dirt, and temperature changes.
May be exposed to broken glass and some exposure to hazardous chemicals.
