About the Role

The Utility Maintenance Mechanic I is the first step of a three-step Utility Maintenance Mechanic Series. This role assists higher-level workers and is distinguished by entry-level experience with the maintenance, operation, and repair of pump stations, flood pump stations, and treatment facilities. Work is performed after receiving technical direction and assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist higher level workers in maintenance, operation, and repair of pump stations, flood pump stations, and treatment facilities.
  • Perform work after receiving technical direction and assigned tasks from supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.
  • Class I KWEA collections or KDHE operations certification within 3 years of hire date.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio.
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and drag objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work with exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
  • Ability to analyze work conditions and recognize safety hazards.
  • Ability to respond correctly to safety hazards.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to carry out assignments through oral and written instructions.
  • Must pass a post-offer criminal history background check.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must pass a drug screen.
  • Must submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
  • Required to submit to a drug test after successful bid and before actual appointment if not presently holding a safety sensitive position with the Unified Government.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing regulations as identified in 49 CFR Part 40 and 49 CFR Part 382.
