About the Role

The Associate Store Manager directly manages store staff productivity on behalf of the owner to ensure effective merchandising and maximize sales and profitability. This role shares responsibility for labor costs and key financial measures while assuming overall operational responsibility in the absence of the owner.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure a consistently high standard of customer service
  • Train and motivate staff
  • Provide a positive working environment, coach, advise and listen to employee issues
  • Prepare and manage work schedules to meet business needs
  • Delegate and prioritize staff workload
  • Effectively merchandise advertising and promotional programs
  • Maintain up-to-date information on market trends and competitor activities
  • Coordinate product receiving, handling, and storage
  • Maintain category sets and mix for profit
  • Ensure overall store profitability using shipment, exclusivity, and flash reports
  • Negotiate credits, display merchandising, and order levels with sales representatives
  • Provide accurate purchasing and ordering for seasonal and specific bookings
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels through effective ordering and rotation
  • Ensure pricing integrity
  • Coordinate daily employee activities and act as a resource
  • Provide input into the performance management process
  • Maintain hygiene standards and provide friendly service

Requirements

  • Management experience
  • Ability to work with minimal functional direction
  • Understanding of discount food store critical success factors
  • Understanding of impact on customer service, employee relations, merchandising, and sales/profits
  • Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills
  • Demonstrated customer focus
  • Strong issue management skills including time management, conflict management, and problem solving
  • Open availability for days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong knowledge of produce area operations and products
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Completion of a criminal background check
