About the Role
Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory testing accurately and timely, utilizing technical and problem-solving skills. Maintains effective communication, quality control, and quality assurance standards. Assumes responsibility for continuing education, licensure, and adapting to departmental growth and testing complexity.
Responsibilities
- Understands and adheres to Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Demonstrates knowledge and adherence to laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs a wide variety of moderate to highly complex laboratory techniques.
- Demonstrates sufficient knowledge and skills to independently operate instrumentation and/or assigned benches.
- Operates all department equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots instrument failures.
- Performs tasks that assist with overall operation of laboratory service according to laboratory policies and in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- May assist with training new employees.
- Assists with specimen processing as needed.
- Assists with inventory management/control.
- Meets continuing education requirements.
- Participates in activities that demonstrate professionalism, a commitment to competency and career growth.
- Performs a variety of routine tests and procedures, instrument maintenance, and routine quality control procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned to assure efficient operations of department, including covering other lab sections.
Requirements
- AS degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited institution or equivalent.
- ASCP eligible.
- Must be tested for colorblindness and be able to make necessary accommodations to perform testing accurately.
- Must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
