About the Role

Texas Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician (IV Admixture) to support the South Austin location. This role involves the technical preparation of medications under supervision, record keeping, and inventory control. Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information, verifying patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner per department, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintaining records.
  • Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily and checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs and logs on all protocol and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers.
  • Provides support with inventory control of medications.
  • Prepares labels, files, and prepares billing.
  • Performs basic data entry into department automation.
  • Orders medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assists with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and pharmacy department to minimize particle counts and improve sanitation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy (Level 1).
  • Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (Level 2).
  • Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (Level Sr).
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience (Level Sr).
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to read and note appropriate measurements.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
