About the Role

The New Museum of Contemporary Art seeks a skilled professional to partner with the Exhibitions Department to complete exhibition needs from planning through installation and dispersal. This role requires frequent work on weekends and evenings and is eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of artist projects and exhibitions.
• Produce exhibition furniture, mounts, crates, and other related elements.
• Work in galleries as part of the installation crew, including construction, painting, object handling & installation, object lighting, and installation of digital or other media.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized production workshop and art storage facilities.
• Perform routine maintenance of exhibitions and artist projects.
• Assist with producing and installing didactic materials.
• Perform routine art handling and occasional transport of artworks.
• Guide and assist other Preparators and Exhibitions Crew as needed.
• Perform other duties as directed within the scope of the Preparator’s job responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, or a related field.
• At least 2 years’ experience working with museum-quality art installations.
• Ability to move or assist in moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
• Ability to operate a scissor lift, pump lift card, and pallet jack.
• Proficiency in fabrication/production/workshop skills and safety, including hand and power tools.
• Knowledge and interest in contemporary art.
• Ability to work easily with multiple teams across the Museum.
• Must be vaccinated with the COVID vaccine.
