About the Role
Easterseals NY is seeking a Teacher Assistant to work in integrated and self-contained preschool classrooms, collaborating with a Special Education Teacher to foster a safe and nurturing educational environment for students.
Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Assist in caring for the physical needs of children.
- Attend staffing and departmental in-service meetings as assigned.
- Assist in keeping classroom and program supplies ready and well-maintained.
- Maintain professional ethics regarding the discussion of pupils and their conditions.
- Assist individuals with toileting and personal care needs when necessary.
- Assist with behavior management of children under the supervision of the classroom teacher as outlined by Program and Agency policies.
- Interact with children in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate way, encouraging self-help.
- Assist in child observation, record keeping, and assessment.
Requirements
- High School education or GED.
- Two (2) years of practical experience working with children is preferred.
- Level I NYS Teacher Assistant Certification.
