About the Role
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering is seeking an Experienced Naval Architect/Engineer to join their Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group. This role will support a fleet of over 55 large construction vessels, contributing to innovative design engineering, structural calculations, plan development, task scheduling, and risk mitigation. The position offers an opportunity to be a significant part of modernizing and constructing Kiewit's marine fleet, working directly with construction teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform design reviews and evaluate constructability.
- Conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work.
- Perform complex engineering work with potential for higher-level technical supervision.
- Design and prepare engineering reports and related documentation.
- Utilize computers and Microsoft Office Suite for data management and file transfer.
- Maintain, organize, track, and prioritize engineering documents.
- Resolve technical issues and manage information throughout design and construction phases.
- Work closely with junior and senior engineers on vessel and system designs.
- Research compliance specifications and technical design issues.
- Interface with classification societies and USCG for vessel certification.
- Manage weight control during vessel modifications and perform deadweight surveys and inclining experiments.
- Survey existing vessels to determine repair and maintenance scope.
- Perform and/or oversee vessel hull structure design for repairs, modifications, and new construction.
- Analyze vessel stability for various loading conditions and develop load capacity charts.
- Provide engineering support for hull outfitting and marine equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related field.
- Marine background and experience.
- Professional Engineer licensure or eligibility within the United States.
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical drawings, industry journals, documents & regulations (ABS, Lloyds, DNV, USCG etc.).
- Experience working directly with Class and USCG to ensure vessel compliance.
- Knowledge and aptitude for structural, mechanical and electrical products in marine systems.
- Strong academic knowledge of structural engineering.
- Experience working in a team setting.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments.
- Ability to travel/TDY assignments and/or relocate based on business needs.
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others.
- Perform work safely and effectively.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Work during normal operating hours and overtime/weekends as required.
