About the Role
The Governance Associate provides professional support to strengthen the Association's governance framework and Board operations. This role involves supporting policy development, Board administration, committee operations, research, compliance monitoring, and governance education to ensure alignment with organizational bylaws and legislative requirements.
Responsibilities
- Research, draft, and maintain Board policies, governance procedures, bylaws, and frameworks.
- Conduct jurisdictional scans and benchmarking to identify governance best practices and legislative developments.
- Develop governance reports, policy recommendations, briefing notes, and resources.
- Support governance modernization and continuous improvement projects.
- Coordinate administrative support for the Board and committees, including agendas, meeting packages, and minutes.
- Monitor Board decisions and committee action items to ensure timely follow-up.
- Maintain governance records, corporate documents, and policy repositories.
- Assist with AGMs, SGMs, Board retreats, and elections-related activities.
- Design and deliver Board orientation, governance education, and professional development programs.
- Develop governance manuals, training materials, and educational resources.
- Assist with Board performance evaluations and governance assessments.
- Support compliance with ONCA, bylaws, and internal policies.
- Support governance audits, reporting, and policy implementation.
- Collaborate on strategic governance initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Build relationships with Board Directors, committee members, staff, and stakeholders.
Requirements
- College Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Governance, Law, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Policy, or related discipline.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 1–3 years of experience in governance, board administration, policy development, nonprofit administration, or corporate governance.
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance principles and best practices.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
