About the Role
Perform daily tasks needed in maintaining the Thrift store, including responsibilities related to the storeroom, sales floor, and register.
Responsibilities
- Run cash register, including processing payments by credit card or gift certificate, and handling change.
- Issue receipts and customer loyalty cards, and provide tax receipts for donations.
- Arrive 15 minutes early for shifts when scheduled to run the cash register.
- Count money in the cash drawer at the beginning of shifts to ensure accuracy and adequate change.
- Count the register at the end of the shift and complete the daily tally sheet.
- Bag, box, or wrap items at the time of purchase.
- Remove hangers from clothing sold and place them in the appropriate bin, and work with others to replace hangers on racks.
- Instruct volunteers on tasks designated by the Thrift Store Manager and provide guidance.
- Report issues to the Store Manager and provide instructions to volunteers in the Manager's absence.
- Work with staff and volunteers to sort, tag, and hang items for sale, following the tagging schedule.
- Learn all roles in the store to be able to fill in where needed.
- Meet daily quotas for the number of items sorted, hung, priced, and placed for sale.
- Follow procedures for removing items from the sales floor at the end of their rotation and place damaged or ragged clothing into the recycling trailer.
- Assist in maintaining the general appearance of the store and sorting areas, keeping them orderly.
- Attend store meetings and stay informed of policies, safety issues, and directives.
- Maintain good customer relations by greeting customers, helping them locate items, and answering questions.
- Greet customers making donations, accept items according to store policies, and thank donors.
- Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
- Secure the building when opening or closing.
- Understand and follow procedures for pricing, handling, and merchandising items.
- Perform one Customer Appreciation Day per year and assist the Thrift Store Manager in thanking customers.
- Be responsible for following applicable procedures, rules, and laws.
Requirements
- Must possess good inter-personal and phone skills.
- Must work well with others and independently.
- Must be able to supervise and instruct.
- Must have safety and situational awareness.
