About the Role
The Medical Assistant (MA) performs assigned tasks of direct and indirect care in the ambulatory setting to meet patient care needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Licensed Independent Practitioner. The MA participates as a member of the health care team, accepting delegation and performing activities within the scope of unlicensed healthcare personnel in New York State.
Responsibilities
- Documents information into patient record accurately and timely.
- Obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies.
- Generates medical renewals under supervision.
- Assists LPNs with obtaining information for pump/sensor/meter approvals.
- Assists in clinical coverage as needed.
- Adheres to AMC’s regulatory compliance issues.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assisting required.
- Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA or CCMA).
- Medical office experience preferred but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team as well as individually.
- Must ensure information access is based on a “need to know” and is the minimum necessary.
- Must use or disclose only the minimum amount of information needed.
- Must make reasonable efforts to ensure information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.
