About the Role

The Medical Assistant (MA) performs assigned tasks of direct and indirect care in the ambulatory setting to meet patient care needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Licensed Independent Practitioner. The MA participates as a member of the health care team, accepting delegation and performing activities within the scope of unlicensed healthcare personnel in New York State.

Responsibilities

Documents information into patient record accurately and timely.
Obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies.
Generates medical renewals under supervision.
Assists LPNs with obtaining information for pump/sensor/meter approvals.
Assists in clinical coverage as needed.
Adheres to AMC’s regulatory compliance issues.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assisting required.
Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA or CCMA).
Medical office experience preferred but not required.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work within a team as well as individually.
Must ensure information access is based on a “need to know” and is the minimum necessary.
Must use or disclose only the minimum amount of information needed.
Must make reasonable efforts to ensure information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.
