About the Role
The Access Service Representative I is responsible for capturing demographic and insurance information via telephone or in-person interactions. This role requires using an eligibility application to verify insurance, interpret responses, and record relevant health insurance details for services rendered. The position also involves collecting patient financial responsibility based on eligibility responses or service estimates.
Responsibilities
- Accurate patient look-up to ensure correct patient registration.
- Discerning demographic and insurance information for accurate registration.
- Interpreting information from Insurance Payers regarding patient eligibility and financial responsibility.
- Discussing patient financial obligations and collecting payments (cash, credit card, or check).
- Explaining regulatory forms, answering patient questions, and obtaining signatures.
- Scanning or managing online form templates for the Electronic Health Record.
- Comprehending Federal, State, and Third Party Payer regulations pertinent to hospital registration.
- Utilizing multiple systems during patient interactions to complete accurate registrations and support clinical workflow.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
- 1-3 years of applicable experience, including customer service and strong computer skills, required.
- Hospital or Clinic setting office experience preferred.
- Proven customer service skills with the ability to exceed expectations.
- Ability to multi-task in stressful and high patient volume units.
- Ability to learn in a classroom setting and utilize resources.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure.
- Ability to review information and draw appropriate conclusions.
- Good judgment and resourcefulness for problem-solving and escalating issues as needed.
- Team-minded work ethic.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
