About the Role

Formation Bio is seeking a Director, People to drive operational excellence, lead strategic people programs, and partner with leaders to solve complex organizational challenges. This high-impact role involves translating business priorities into scalable programs and processes within an AI-native People Team.

Responsibilities

• Drive AI-native operations across the People Team, identifying opportunities to leverage technology and redesign workflows while maintaining human elements.
• Ensure operational excellence and compliance, evolving people processes as the business scales.
• Lead complex, cross-functional processes, partnering with Legal, Finance, Tech Ops, and Quality Assurance.
• Serve as the escalation point for complex people operations, benefits, and compensation matters.
• Manage external vendor relationships and consultant partnerships, evaluating opportunities for improvement.
• Elevate and own performance, promotion, and compensation review programs for quality, consistency, and scalability.
• Own compensation strategy and execution, including framework design, market positioning, and equity programs.
• Lead benefits strategy, vendor selection, and plan design to ensure a competitive total rewards package.
• Anticipate future people program needs based on business priorities and organizational growth.
• Serve as a strategic People partner for designated leaders and functions.
• Develop a deep understanding of the business and build trusted relationships with leaders.
• Coach managers through complex people situations, balancing employee experience, business outcomes, and organizational health.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in people operations, people business partnering, total rewards, and/or HR leadership roles.
• Proven track record leveraging AI and automation to improve people operations with concrete results.
• Strong operational background with experience in people systems, benefits, compliance, and building scalable operations infrastructure.
• Experience designing and scaling people programs while balancing quality, consistency, and operational efficiency.
• Ability to make independent, complex decisions with strong judgment and a company-wide perspective.
• Strong ownership mentality and high accountability.
• People management experience, including developing individuals and teams.
• Strong cross-functional partnership skills.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-growth environments, thriving in ambiguity.
• Compensation expertise is a plus (designing frameworks, market analysis, equity, total rewards).
• Experience in biotech, pharma, or other technical or regulated industries is a plus but not required.
