About the Role
The Cloud Cost & Capacity Engineering (CCCE) team helps leaders understand cloud spend, identify optimization opportunities, and make informed investment decisions without hindering team velocity. As Manager, CCCE, you will lead the FinOps function, overseeing forecasting, governance, and communication of cloud costs and capacity across the company. You will collaborate with engineering, product, finance, and data partners to translate complex data into clear guidance for senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the FinOps Function & Strategy, including defining vision, scope, success metrics, and collaboration models.
- Set and maintain the roadmap for forecasting, tracking, and optimizing cloud cost and capacity.
- Act as the accountable owner for FinOps outcomes: forecast accuracy, spend predictability, optimization impact, and leadership communication quality.
- Define FinOps presentation in senior forums to focus cloud spend conversations on decisions and trade-offs.
- Develop a clear point of view on cloud spend drivers, risks, and opportunities.
- Translate complex usage, cost, and capacity signals into concise narratives for executives.
- Lead the creation of executive materials explaining spend, drivers, and recommended actions.
- Own the cloud forecasting approach, including methodologies, assumptions, and governance.
- Partner with Finance and leadership on annual and multi-year cloud planning, linking spend to growth drivers and investments.
- Drive scenario modeling for new initiatives, providing clear cost impact assessments.
- Shape and participate in investment review processes with data-backed recommendations.
- Design methods to track and explain forecast variance to executives.
- Serve as the strategic liaison between Engineering, Product, Finance, and Procurement on cloud spend.
- Establish predictable cadences for cost reviews and deep dives to ensure team accountability.
- Collaborate with platform and capacity engineering to translate FinOps insights into architectural decisions and optimizations.
- Build shared understanding of spend drivers to focus leadership conversations on trade-offs and priorities.
- Directly manage and develop the CCCE team, setting priorities and standards.
- Own and evolve the FinOps tool stack for trusted, decision-ready insights.
- Champion a culture of cost awareness and financial accountability across engineering through training and engagement.
- Partner with data and platform teams on advanced modeling while retaining end-to-end FinOps accountability.
- Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and the company's mission.
Requirements
- 7–10+ years in cloud financial management, FinOps, engineering strategy, or a similar role combining technical and financial decision-making.
- Direct leadership of a small technical or analytical team.
- Proven ownership of a function or program end-to-end (vision, roadmap, stakeholders, outcomes).
- Track record influencing senior leaders (VP/C-level, CFO/Finance) on investment decisions using data and narrative.
- Familiarity with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and their major cost drivers.
- Experience building or maturing a FinOps or cloud cost practice (e.g., Showback, Cost to Serve, optimization programs).
- Familiarity with cost management tools (e.g., FinOut, Cloudability, native cloud billing) and modern data stacks for financial and operational reporting.
