About the Role

The Stroke Director at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center provides leadership for the Stroke Program, ensures Stroke Center Certification, and delivers quality, evidence-based stroke care. Responsibilities include direct patient care, responding to acute stroke alerts, general neurology consultations, and outpatient care, with opportunities for teaching and supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and provides direction to the Comprehensive Stroke Center and oversees related systems and programs.
  • Provides leadership and drives program development to maintain TJC Comprehensive Stroke Center accreditation.
  • Coordinates and directs the facility's stroke care team, ensuring effective communication with medical staff, quality, nursing, and other departments.
  • Provides accurate and timely clinical data to committees and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Participates in the clinical peer review process for neuroscience patients through chart review, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Acts as a resource for regulatory agencies, makes compliance recommendations, and maintains mandatory documentation.
  • Positions the facility as the area’s comprehensive stroke service and leads in the TJC National Comprehensive Stroke Center Forum.
  • Participates in clinical research and the development and implementation of evidence-based care approaches.
  • Leads the development of key indices to assess the effectiveness and outcomes of care.
  • Serves as Medical Liaison and resource to transferring hospitals.
  • Serves as Medical Liaison and resource to Emergency Medical Service.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree from an Accredited University
  • New York Medical License/Active NYS DEA
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Neurologist
  • Completion of Fellowship in Vascular Neurology preferred
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a stroke provider is preferred
  • A minimum of three years leadership experience in a stroke center setting is preferred
  • Excellent communication, bedside manner, and organizational skills
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels of the organization to promote a culture of patient safety
  • A strong work ethic and desire to participate in a team-oriented, patient-centered Health System
  • Thrive in a constantly evolving environment, challenging the status quo and striving to innovate and improve care delivery
