About the Role
The New Museum seeks a dynamic, relationship-driven fundraiser to lead its individual giving program and shape the future of a leading contemporary art institution. This role involves stewarding a significant portfolio, cultivating donor relationships, and engaging visionary philanthropists with the art of our time. It serves as a frontline fundraiser, responsible for building and maintaining donor relationships, increasing individual support, and overseeing development operations to ensure excellent donor service.
Responsibilities
- Lead individual giving program and shape the future of the institution.
- Steward a $3M+ portfolio and cultivate transformational donor relationships.
- Engage visionary philanthropists with contemporary art.
- Build and maintain donor relationships.
- Increase individual support and engagement with the Museum.
- Provide oversight of development operations.
- Develop dynamic materials and communications strategies.
- Ensure the success of the individual giving annual goal.
- Ensure efficiency in development operations.
- Manage high-level communications, cultivation, and support of patron groups.
- Oversee and action benefits fulfillment.
- Conduct research and provide strategic oversight of development plans.
- Advance strategies that support deep relationships between donors/prospects and the New Museum.
- Represent the Museum at donor events.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for New Museum patron groups.
- Ensure the realization of annual fundraising goals for Councils.
- Maintain relationships with donors and prospects via regular communications and personalized service.
- Prepare materials for donor meetings and organize follow-up steps.
- Maintain materials and donor files with accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality.
- Develop materials, strategies, and action steps to support gifts for exhibitions, programs, and operations.
- Ensure ongoing communications with donors about programming.
- Provide strategic oversight of extraordinary access experiences, including private artist studio visits and international Art Study Tours.
- Support the planning of distinctive programs for patrons.
- Ensure the Travel program meets annual revenue goals.
- Supervise and action invoicing, acknowledgement, recognition, and proper documentation for all donor areas.
- Manage development office operations, providing project and timeline management.
- Support efficiencies across the department.
Requirements
- Relationship-driven fundraising professional with a track record of supporting gifts or sales of $50K and above.
- High-energy, accomplishment-driven professional committed to personal service, efficiency, and communication.
- Minimum of five years of experience in not-for-profit fundraising or sales at a contemporary art gallery or auction house.
- Excellent communication skills in written and oral presentation.
- Strong project management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience with travel programs, event planning, and programming.
- Comfortable performing under tight deadlines.
- Enjoy a fast-paced environment.
- Strong capacity to multi-task, assess priorities, and react when priorities shift.
- Ability to attend evening and weekend events as required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor database program is essential.
- Experience with contemporary art, major philanthropists/collectors, and the international art community is required.
- Ability to build networks and develop relationships with diverse constituencies is a priority.
