About the Role

Operate all types of equipment to perform all safety functions, including manual transmission and tire chaining. Drive in all terrains, routes, and environmental conditions. Safely operate a tractor/trailer for freight transportation in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive in all types of terrain, routes, and environmental conditions
  • Safely operate a tractor/trailer in the transportation of freight
  • Adhere to all FMCSA requirements for Commercial Driver’s License holders
  • Maintain records required for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Comply with all requirements for safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials
  • Ensure security of equipment and cargo
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Check gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions
  • Ensure seal or lock on trailers
  • Inspect vehicle before and during trips to determine problems
  • Promptly report all maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision
  • Verify unit numbers versus paperwork and report discrepancies
  • Use in-cab technology, including electronic logs
  • Drive different schedules and work the dock based on business needs
  • Run over-the-road on occasion, as approved by Safety and dictated by business needs
  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers and the general public
  • Assist with local pick up and delivery routes, Hub/Regional runs, and dock work
  • Load and unload freight at customer sites
  • Attend work regularly
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 21 years of age
  • 1 year driving experience
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Reside within 75 miles of the domiciled Service Center and/or work assignment
  • Hazmat, Tanker and Doubles endorsements required (LCV requirements may apply)
  • Able to drive a tractor trailer for a period of time that will conform to FMCSA requirements
  • Stable employment history preferred
  • Able to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle)
  • Able to push or pull a loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70lbs
  • Able to perform physical activities including standing, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing a ladder
  • Able to drop/hook and couple trailers, including cranking landing gear, pulling 5th wheel pin (approx. 65 lbs. pressure), and maneuvering a trailer dolly
  • Able to provide an acceptable MVR
  • Familiar with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations
  • Pass a FMCSA required medical exam
  • Pass a road test
  • Able to meet FMCSA requirements to speak and read English
  • Able to lift approximately 70 lbs., or more if required
  • Able to drive all routes and in all types of terrain
  • Able to drive in a wide range of environmental conditions
  • Able to operate all safety and operational functions of equipment
  • Able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
  • Able to interact well with others
  • Able to work independently, or in a team setting
  • Able to work under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities
  • Able to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Subject to random drug and/or alcohol tests
  • Subject to a criminal history background check
  • Authorized to work in the United States
