About the Role

The Union Health Center (UHC) is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant to join our Team. UHC is an innovative primary and multi-specialty center focused on providing well-coordinated and accessible healthcare to union workers and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Attends daily team huddles and reviews Quality Measures prior to scheduled appointments.
  • Measures and records vital signs, allergies, weight, height, and smoking status into the EMR.
  • Performs urine pregnancy tests, peak flows, finger stick for glucose, monofilament foot exams, vision/hearing screenings, urine dipstick, and phlebotomy.
  • Codes patient procedures into the EMR and updates as directed by the provider.
  • Performs medication review with each patient and notifies the provider of discrepancies.
  • Documents PHQ2, PHQ9, GAD, DAST, AUDIT, and SODH annually or as needed.
  • Documents HPI for all patients prior to PCP visit.
  • Notifies provider and prepares materials for in-patient procedures.
  • Sets up exam rooms, checks equipment, and stocks rooms with supplies.
  • Escorts patients to the exam room and performs patient identification.
  • Reviews, confirms, and updates patient demographic data, consents, insurance, and pharmacy information in the EMR.
  • Scans updated documents into the EMR.
  • Communicates with the provider and team via email and Teams messages.
  • Schedules future appointments and provides follow-up care information to patients.
  • Reviews and answers patient questions about the Clinical Visit Summary (CVS).
  • Assists provider with visit confirmation/follow-up calls and generates correspondence.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments as needed.
  • Answers telephones and documents phone notes in the EMR.
  • Processes electronic patient referrals, prior authorizations, and consultations.
  • Collects information about walk-in patient complaints and directs to RN or Team Supervisor for triage.
  • Follows safety procedures and bloodborne pathogen precautions.
  • Supports policies regarding patient care, infection control, and safety.
  • Maintains quality assurance logs.
  • Attends organization meetings, trainings, and completes assigned courses.
  • Uses clinical registries as directed by providers or care teams.
  • Supports the Patient Centered Medical Home goals by working cooperatively with staff.
  • Complies with UHC policies regarding privacy and security of PHI.
  • Maintains stock and orders medical and non-medical supplies.
  • Provides front desk coverage as needed, including scheduling, registration, and problem-solving.

Requirements

  • High school or Equivalency /GED Diploma.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from a certified institution.
  • Skilled in phlebotomy.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Language proficiency required in one of the target languages of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with people at all levels.
  • Excellent team and “people” skills.
  • Ability to assist and maintain a strong working relationship with providers and professional team members.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Initiates good judgment and ability to contribute in making decisions in a timely fashion.
  • Actively seek out and support collaborative thinking and problem solving with others.
  • Possess a professional appearance and presentation.
