About the Role
As a Surveyor, you will establish and maintain methods for safe, accurate, and efficient Survey Field Operations. You will be responsible for field survey operations, spending the majority of your time in the field. You will also lead and teach junior surveyors good surveying practices. While most operations are Monday to Friday during the day, expect varying schedules based on project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Implement Safety in every aspect of their working duties
- Implement the project survey plan specific to field operations
- Oversee operations with periodic reviews of record-keeping, field procedures, and survey audits
- Maintain accurate and legible field notes, sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys
- Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations
- Prepare site surveying documents/reports and present findings
- Ensure equipment maintenance and calibration
- Set and maintain control networks
- Perform layout and drawing clarifications
- Supervise, teach, and lead junior team members
Requirements
- Committed to working safely and getting the job done right the first time
- Willing to work 40-45 hours per week, with occasional irregular hours
- 5+ years' experience in Construction Survey, Field Engineering, traversing, leveling, layouts, or related experience
- Ability to coordinate with different trades, field, and other construction team members
- Understanding of common Canadian coordinate systems
- GPS, leveling, and robotic total station experience required
- Ability to apply intermediate concepts of Trigonometry, Mathematics, Calculus, and Geomatics to perform calculations
- Strong computer knowledge to use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other computer-assisted design software
- Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in safety, quality, and productivity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work individually and as a team
- Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate and mentor teams
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others
- Perform work safely and effectively
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Work during normal operating hours and overtime/weekends as required
- May work at various different locations and conditions may vary
Skills
- Surveying experience in transit is an asset
- Trimble/ Leica equipment experience is an asset
- Working at heights trained is an asset
